Meet HRD Mondays!

Every Monday, we'll be featuring a few of our skaters on our blog!
Meet the many faces of HRD and learn a little about who you want to cheer for in 2012!

This Monday, check out Louisa May Assault, Global Warman, and Becky Booty!

Name Louisa May Assault
Number 27
Team The Brawlers, The Knockouts
Position Jammer / Blocker
Years Played I started with the Rec League in the spring of 2010 and tried out for the league that fall. I found my home with the Brawlers before the season started in 2011. It feels like forever and just last week at the same time!
Height 5'5"
Occupation Graphic Designer
How did you get into derby? I was a crash-zone fan until 2xForce and I decided to try it ourselves, which was the best plan ever.
How did you pick your derby name? Picking a derby name was pretty difficult for me; it took weeks of lists and consulting people. Eventually, I chose a favorite author and twisted it.
Likes I love my adorable mutt who I rescued from Houston SPCA six years ago. She's just the sweetest, most ridiculous dog ever.
Dislikes I hate olives and days without derby.
Favorite thing about derby Skating! It's so much more fun than getting around without wheels strapped to your feet. Of course, getting out all my frustrations on the track is a great bonus.
Fun Facts I'm making an honest man out of Mr. Assault this June!

Name Global Warman
Number 212
Team The Valkyries
Position Jammer / Blocker
Years Played Years Played-.01 / Years on Rec League-2 yrs
Height 5'7"
Occupation Restaurant Supply Sales
How did you get into derby? I got that 20 year High School Reunion invitation and realized I STILL hadn't found and adult hobby.
How did you pick your derby name? My last name is Warman and Warman Fuzzy wasn't very threatening.
Likes Meat and potatoes, sleep, cruddy old sitcoms.
Dislikes Running(even for my life), people who don't use their blinker, unwarranted arrogance.
Favorite thing about derby Getting to know myself in a whole new way, as a whole new person since I used to be a MAJOR couch potato.
Fun Facts I wear a pedometer pretty much every waking minute. I broke my ankle the first day I bought my own speed skates.

Name Becky Booty
Number 866
Team The Bayou City Bosses, The Houston All-Stars
Position Pivot/Blocker (Hoping to be Jamming this season again, I frequently jammed season one)
Years Played 7
Height 5'5"
Occupation Mother, artist, dental assistant
How did you get into derby? I wanted to play since I was 7-years-old and I saw it on TV. I have skated basically all my life. I was a Figure/Freestyle competitive skater when I was 12-14. When I moved to Texas I started skating with the Urban Animals and the In-Line Swine. I skated with them for about 10 years before hearing of this Derby League being formed in Houston, while out on a street skate. I attended the next practice.
How did you pick your derby name? My derby name was created by two boys who worked at the rink who were there when it was closed to the general public. They would frequently watch me practice and they started calling me "Becky Booty," so I figured that would be a fitting name for me. My number was my bicycle courier number when I worked for City Couriers.
Likes I like being blessed by The Holy Spirit! Like skating and the color pink, doing all types of art, working out, yoga, hanging out with my family and good friends, snow skiing, water skiing, my new house in the Heights, carpooling, I could go on and on... I am so very blessed!
Dislikes Dishonesty and manipulating, getting injured and not being able to skate, mean spiteful people, a dirty messy home.
Favorite thing about derby Great friends that I wouldn't have otherwise, helping others, being a positive role model. Having to always aspire to get better, pushing my body harder all the time. I love that it is a Smart Person Game, must be able to multi task and have super awareness under extreme pressure. Must work with teammates, even if you don't necessarily get along off the track, must overcome for the common goal - winning!
Fun Facts I was drafted to one of our first teams, The Burlesque Brawlers, now known as just "The Brawlers." We used to "Fake Fight." That was something we had to learn how to do it safely as to not hurt someone, at the same time trying to make it look "real" getting the crowd all excited! We used to be allowed to launch someone 3 rows into the crowd and it was not a penalty. That was FUN! Seeing that I was originally one of maybe 5 out of at least 60 that could really skate (when the league started in 2005), the five of us began teaching the others; myself, using the techniques that were used in my youth: how to stand without falling, doing crossovers, eventually how to turn around then do a toe stop etc. Some of these girls turned out to be amazing skaters and pivotal members of HRD! They are some you may know today, DBC, Carmen Geddit, and The Prosecutor.

Tune in next Monday to see our next set of featured skaters for the week!
